Even the word midsummer conjures up magic for me: a vision of Titania and Puck, dancing through a lantern-lit woodland worthy of a Tim Walker set. I was commissioned by Belgravia to create this tablescape in my garden using pieces from shops in this beautiful borough of London.
Set The Table
Midsummer Tablescape
Belgravia is a treasure trove of tablescape inspiration. The borough is such an exciting hub of interiors, lifestyle and tablescape inspiration with a really eclectic mix of independent and local retailers. This meant I had a wealth of options and ideas for this tablescape in my garden.
My starting point for the table was summer's British flowers, hand embroidered onto these cushions by Chelsea Textiles and across the linens of Summerill & Bishop.
"I created the floral centrepiece in jam jars with lupins and spiraea for height, Emma Woodhouse garden roses as heroes then sweet pea, poppies and scabiosa for pops of colour. The roses and mint scented the air, echoed in Rachel Vosper's Scent 7 which I burnt on the table."
I wanted to try something new with lighting - particularly as summer dusk stretches out so late… I hung festoon lights between the trees and tied on some flowers for colour. I then used mini palm lamps from Collier Webb with tiny little lampshades from Fermoie on the table. They are battery powered so there's far less risk of wax falling on your tablecloth!
