Holi Block Printing Class

Holi Block Printing Class

On the morning of Holika Dahan in Jaipur, it was a pleasure to share one of the city’s most enduring crafts with twenty guests of Chase Sapphire Reserve, in a private block printing workshop held in collaboration with Bisou by Sachi.

Sachi Badaya and Rosanna Falconer

We began the morning introducing the principles behind block printing - from the precision of hand-carved wooden blocks to the importance of alignment, rhythm and repeat in building a design.

Guests were then invited to print their own scarves.

Two distinct colour stories were set out across the tables. One in cooler, more restrained tones - soft blues and teal. The other in a brighter palette inspired by Holi, with vivid orange and pink, marking the festival.

Group of people gathered around a table in a room with large windows for a block printing workshop.

What makes block printing so engaging in a workshop setting is its immediacy. With each placement of the block, the design builds in real time - requiring both precision and confidence.

It offers a rare balance: structured enough to guide, yet open enough to allow for complete individuality.

This was a private workshop created for a client group. I occasionally design and host similar experiences, tailored to the setting and guest profile. For private workshop enquiries, please get in touch at hello@rosannafalconer.com.

For those interested in attending a public block printing workshop in Jaipur, I recommend Rajasthan Studio, who run regular sessions rooted in traditional techniques.
