Behind Jaipur Blossom

Behind Jaipur Blossom

The most detailed and colourful print in Rosanna's collection to date, Jaipur Blossom is abundant with hydrangea, pears and even tiny wren birds flitting in between. Here is how it came to life.

Drawing

This print began with a drawing of a Blue Pottery vase (a craft unique to the city) with a full garden bouquet. Roses in full bloom fall over the neckline while hydrangeas stand tall next to clouds of pear blossom. This forms the single, standalone motif or butta (būṭā) which is spaced at intervals across the designs. The same flora and fauna bloom across the corresponding repeat pattern (or jaal / jāl) - a lattice work of interconnecting leaves, stems and flowers - pictured.

Colours

The seven colours applied to the prints needed to complement each other - no mean feat with a print as colourful as this. We experimented at length with the right mix of hot and cold shades, depths and tones.

Placement

Once carved, these new blocks presented an opportunity to experiment with placement. With the butta placed across the centre, the white space of the Jaipur Blossom Pink tablecloth gives a completely distinct feel to the full pattern coverage across the Green tablecloth.

"Our favourite feature of this print is the way the colourways can be mixed together across the designs."

Mix-And-Match

Our favourite feature of this print is the way the colourways can be mixed together across designs. Go traditional and fully tonal, of course, but there's such beauty and possibility when mixing the pink placemats with the green tablecloth and vice versa. The campaign, shot in the impossibly romantic Diggi Palace (which has an array of dream spots to lay a table), should provide lots of inspiration for you to do so.
