One of the highlights of my pop-up at Smock London was hosting a tablescaping and contemporary floristry masterclass with my friend Georgia Meramo of AFLORA, raising funds for Vimukti Sanstha girls’ school in Jaipur.
My own floristry style has always been influenced by the English country gardens of my childhood. But moving to Jaipur forced me to rethink everything I knew about flowers. The market offering is far more limited than in London and my usual meadowy style of flowers wilt in the heat.
Georgia’s contemporary approach to floristry relies on shape, balance and intention. She celebrates the beauty of individual stems, allowing each flower space to shine.
For our masterclass, we worked exclusively with carnations. One of Georgia’s key principles is that a beautiful arrangement doesn’t require an expensive mix of flowers. A single bloom, thoughtfully arranged, can be just as impactful. By focusing on shape and movement rather than variety, we hoped to champion an often-overlooked flower and show just how elegant the humble carnation can be.

Using fewer flowers also allowed the tablescape itself to take focus. I layerd hand-painted plates and flower-shaped napkin rings from Bonadea with Jaipur Blossom linens. Each place setting resembled a flower in bloom.
Most importantly, the event raised funds for Vimukti Sanstha, a girls’ school in Jaipur that I have supported for many years.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and to Smock London for hosting such a wonderful few days on the King’s Road.
